I’m Helen, a professional woman in my late 20s with an equal love of food and form-fitting dresses. And for a long time therein lay the problem! When I first started my health & fitness journey, all I wanted was to be able to enjoy food and still squeeze into that BCBG dress at the same time.
So then came a lot of working out and (some) dieting. I ran 5Ks, 12Ks and even a half-marathon. I completed countless workout videos, including the grueling 60-day Insanity program and Insanity Asylum. And I put myself through countless diets: low carb, no carb, high protein, no sugar, no dairy, etc. And I got results but…
Then, a little under a year ago, someone very close to me was diagnosed with diabetes. Seeing the impact of this diagnosis on their eating and fitness habits, I began to realize what was missing in my own health regimen: depth!
Sure it was great to be able to squeeze into that itty bitty dress -and I had plenty of them so I had to get my money’s worth!- but I realized it was more important to understand what I was eating, how it impacted my body and what I could do to be healthier through diet and exercise.
After spending time eating cleaner and working out with more of a purpose, I’m now a firm believer that healthy diet/exercise should be a lifestyle not a fad!
So this blog will share some yummy, healthy (& diabetic-friendly) recipes I’ve learned. It will also offer some workout DVD reviews, fitness/exercise tips and general opinions on health issues of the day. I hope the blog is helpful to anyone who is living with diabetes, caring for someone with diabetes or is just trying to eat/live healthier! Oh yeah, and you BCBG-wearers are more than welcome too.
Enjoy!
-Helen aka “CFC”
