Lacey Stone’s New Fitness App! And 3 Tips for Working Out on the Go


Remember last summer when I blogged about my vacation in Costa Rica? Well before the trip, I wasn’t sure if the hotel I was staying in would have a gym or not. What’s a girl to do? 😮 Bring her workout DVDs with her of course! I was pushing through Pure Cardio in my hotel room and dying! loving the burn!

Then last week in NYC, I attended a launch party for Lacey Stone’s new mobile fitness app “Extreme Bootcamp with Lacey Stone”! I felt like I’d found another great outlet to working out while away from home: my iPhone! At the launch party, Lacey took the group through the workout they could expect from the app- planks, push-ups, tricep dips, tuck jumps- you name it! It was a pretty exhausting workout, but it was great to know that it was a workout you could have in your pocket! Check out more on Lacey’s app by clicking here.

In case you’re planning a trip to escape the winter, here are my three quick tips for working out on the go:

1. Check to see if your hotel will have a gym/workout space available. Be sure to check the hours for the gym/workout space to make sure you can fit them into your work/vacay schedule.

2. Bring your workout DVDs and/or fitness apps with you! Just like you bring a good book with you for the beach, be sure to bring your workout DVDs and fitness apps along for the trip!

3. No gym, DVDs or apps? Get back to basics! If you’re in a bind where you can’t do your workout of choice on the go, you can always get back to basics and go for a quick run, or find a simple workout routine that you can do in your hotel room when you wake up in the morning. The key is to get your heart rate up and to push your muscles to fatigue.

    My favorite app by far is Nike Training Club . Many options to choose from and you can score bonus workouts every time you log exercise minutes . The best part is that it’s free !!!

    Just got myself a TRX suspension trainer, that will definitely be coming with me wherever I go. Highly, highly recommend it, it offers a bit more variety for strengthening than a bare room and is a lot more demanding (and scalable) than the typical push up/plank/squat routine. Their slogan is “make your body your machine”, though I am afraid even a machine body would still find cause for exhaustion. All it takes is a door, which even the skimpiest hotel rooms tend to offer, and they provide workouts through an iPhone app, too.

    (Also looking forward to now being able to get in an actual workout during late nights at the office, where my TRX will live – used to do a dance routine to keep the blood flowing during all nighters, but the presence of an actual fitness gadget will make the “I was working out!” excuse a bit more believable if somebody should walk in after all.)

      Wow SKS, your comment was right on TIME! I just re-joined the gym masses (couldn’t resist the New Year’s deals) and they are offering TRX classes. Was thinking about checking them out and now I’m much more likely to give them a try. Also hear you on the “actual fitness gadget”. Something about having my sneaks and DVDs with me in Costa Rica made it so much more likely that I’d work out. Maybe it’s the luggage room it takes up? 😉 -CFC

    Oh, absolutely do it!! I’ve only been doing it for a few weeks but am totally addicted – my gym regimen went from every other day to six-seven times a week because I didn’t want to miss it (hence the purchase of the home version). Could feel my core engage while vacuuming the other day… that’s definitely NEVER happened before. Look forward to hearing what you think, enjoy the classes!
